Global Health Nursing Laboratory Research

Our major research topics include issues related to global health, such as research that contributes to maintaining and promoting the health of people in low- and middle-income countries, research that contributes to health issues considered important in global health, as well as health concerns affecting Japanese and foreigners overseas.

Global Health Nursing Laboratory - Faculty Research

Professor Erika Ota: Professor Ota is a midwife who focuses on global maternal and child health studies such as low birth weight and preconception, global nutrition studies such as dietary intake and lifestyle during pregnancy, epidemiological studies, surveys, systematic reviews and practice guidelines that utilize and generate evidence, and other issues in our country and global health. She also serves as director of the Center for International and Regional Collaboration at St. Luke's International University, director of the WHO Center for Nursing Development and Cooperation in Primary Health Care, and director of the PCC Office of Development and Regional Collaboration at the Center for International and Regional Collaboration. She collaborates with WHO headquarters and WHO Western Pacific Office.

Associate Professor Yasuko Nagamatsu: Mrs. Nagamatsu is an associate professor who works on global health issues. Her main research interests are foreign residents in Japan and patients and their families with asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma. Graduate School of Global Health Nursing-Student Research

The research topics of students who are or have been enrolled in the Graduate School of Global Health Nursing are diverse in terms of the countries and religions of their subjects and their research methods. They learn and work on research methods appropriate to their respective research topics.

Past research topics include:

A survey of secondhand smoke exposure among pregnant women in Indonesia

A randomized controlled trial to prevent exposure to secondhand smoke among pregnant women in Indonesia

Dissemination of neonatal resuscitation to nurses in Indonesia

Developing a Culturally Appropriate Maternity Care Model for Muslim Expatriate Women in Japan

Oral health education for Japanese expatriates

Research on the effectiveness of IT-based interventions such as mobile phones during pregnancy in low- and middle-income countries
